President’s Report

Extract from The Gym – Spring 2009

Dear Fellow Old Collegians,

Once again the Old Collegians’ Association ended the Birthday week of the College with a Back to CBC afternoon tour and barbecue. On Sunday August 16th a number of old boys and companions took advantage of the balmy weather and enjoyed a barbecue lunch before heading off on a comprehensive tour of the school.

Noel Mifsud, Principal of CBC, explained the College’s building developments and unveiled the plans for the  rebuilding of the Junior School. This certainly promises to be an outstanding development for the College and  will help maintain CBC’s proud reputation as a leader in boys’ education.

The tour took in all the facilities of the College and was led by current Deputy Principal and Old Collegian,  Shaun Clarke. Quite a number of the assembled old boys said that today’s CBC students should feel very privileged to have such excellent facilities. There was quite a bit of “Now in my day…” as the old boys envied what today’s students have to support their learning.

Another highlight of the tour was a visit to the Archives Room, where College Archivist, Jacinta Weiss, presented the collection and spoke about the current display that focuses on the sporting history of the College.

Put in your diary for next year, the Sunday following our alma mater’s birthday (which is of course the Feast of the Assumption on August 15th) and come along for a convivial gathering and a tour of the school.

On behalf of the Association, sincere and heartfelt thanks to Jacinta, Shaun and Noel for their hospitality and warmth and for the effort they continue to make for the benefi t of all Old Collegians.

I hope you’ve caught the news of the CBCOC Football Club’s great success in making the Grand Final in Division 4 of the SAAFL. Although beaten by 10 points by Prince Alfred OC, it took a Brownlow Medalist and his six goals to deny the Dolphins. Congratulations to coach Darren Jarman and all the CBCOC boys on a great season.

Finally, included in this issue of The Gym is a booking form for this year’s Old Collegians’ Annual Dinner. Your  Executive Committee is very happy that we have been able to contain the cost of the Dinner to 2007 levels, which is quite an achievement. I urge you all to come along and enjoy the conviviality and fellowship of our Annual Dinner and to arrange a table with your fellow classmates.

I look forward to catching up with you all on the night.

God Bless,

Mr Viano Jaksa
President (1971)
